SUMMARY

The Welder  welds, fabricates, and assembles metal products based on customer and company requirements under controlled conditions. Responsible for receiving, storing, packaging, processing, and distribution of materials in conjunction with the scheduling of work orders, tools, equipment, maintenance and personnel needed to meet customer requirements and management objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Operates and maintains all welding machinery.
  • Identifies most efficient type of weld based on information specified on work order/prints, which includes but is not limited to, determining type of material and required surface finish.
  • Proficient in operating Mig and Tig welding equipment, cold saws, tauring rollers and other tools and equipment as required, to complete the fabrication process.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding, plasma, and oxy/acetylene.
  • Operates forklift as needed.
  • Performs required maintenance as needed or required for the fabrication department.
  • Complies with mandated ISO quality procedures.
  • Determines the production schedules based on customer order requirements.
  • Establishes most efficient way to schedule employees and equipment to meet production requirements.
  • Partners with Quality Manager regarding issues concerning quality, the PPAP process, and ISO-9001.
  • Acts as Quality Assurance Representative for the fabrication department.
  • Transports material and goods from receiving, storage, or production areas to various processing, shipping and storage locations.
  • Organizes storage and processing areas to make most efficient use of space and handling requirements.
  • Trains personnel on system, equipment and procedures.
  • Follows ISO 9001-2000 procedures and processes.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by overseeing employees to make certain MIOSHA, safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Wears proper PPE at all times.
  • Maintains inventory control of work-in-progress and stored material.
  • Plays an active role in mentoring individuals in the apprenticeship program.
  • Participates in quoting work as it pertains to fabricated products.
  • Works with sales and/or customers to answer welding and product related questions.
  • Builds and creates fixtures.
  • Completes projects for internal use.
  • Maintains internal project list and completes projects.
  • Maintains clean work environment.
  • Assists in performing final inspections of parts.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

3-5 years of production welding experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiar with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, or similar operating and software systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively and clearly to others.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently lift, move, or position materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must remain in a stationary or standing position for the length of the shift.
