SUMMARY

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for selling products and services to business and industrial establishments, or individuals at sales offices or customer's places of business in the Michiana area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS                                                                                                           

  • Compiles lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, and other sources.
  • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders and/or talk with customers by phone.
  • Involved in planning and development of customer base in current and new territories.
  • Seeks new ways to service accounts by acquainting customers with other Schupan services that may be of value to the customer.
  • Quotes prices and credit terms, and prepares sales contracts for orders obtained.
  • Helps to establish order pricing and follows up on quotations.
  • Estimates date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of production and delivery schedules.
  • Prepares weekly sales call sheet report and maintains expense account information, submitting monthly for reimbursement.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or minimum of 2 yrs. experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and training.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office or similar software.
  • Ability to effectively explain technical information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to respond to questions from customers and recommend products based on their needs.
  • Ability to calculate discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume applying concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
